Project Details
ConnectedIQ tasked Piehead & Co. to design and build a POC for a sales application called SalesIQ. SalesIQ is an app that will provide sales and business professionals with an easy to use system that provides a constant feed of intelligence defined by their areas of interest. They can then build out Workspaces to collect and group this intelligence around anyone or anything they're trying to target.
The Process
1
The Problem
ConnectedIQ came to us with a concept for an application. Being past salesmen, they saw a need in the market for a tool that would gather intelligent information about industries and companies that sales and business professionals could utilize at their fingertips before walking into any meeting. Always be the smartest one in the room, right?

The challenge became identifying where to pull all this data, distilling it into digestible information that the user could use and share amongst other team members, and prioritizing the features and functionality for the MVP.

2
Empathize
Despite having existing research and knowledgable clients from the industry, the team still wanted to gather some more market research to better identify the needs of the users who would potentially use this application and how it could solve existing pain points throughout workday.
Discoveries
We held a session with salesmen and other business professionals to understand their typical day, their needs, and what they deemed most important if we were to create this application.

The documents to the right show all the features and data that was on the table for discussion. by having them prioritize the list individually helped us focus on the most important things:

-
App must prove its ROI within the sales process and cycles
-

User Journeys

Exploration
The primary goal for the app was to create an experience that would be easy for the user to use and want to make it a part of their daily work routine to manage intel on potential and current leads/opportunities. I looked to other apps people use daily, such as Pinterest and Tinder, for functionality and gestures that could be incorporated to make the experience more intuitive for the user.

These sketches show my early exploration of layouts and functionality for the main areas of SalesIQ.

Design Challenges
An overall challenge the wireframes helped address was how we could illustrate a way to fit and organize all the captured intelligence and utilize functionality that was easy for the user to use and understand on a mobile device.

One example was developing screens for the Workspace area (right wireframe) that would allow the user to add the intelligence SalesIQ collected and organize it into a SWAT analysis, comparison charts, reports and organizational charts while also allowing them the ability to collaborate with co-workers.
5
Final Designs
I worked closely with the Visual Designer to translate the new branding throughout the wireframes.
6
Next Steps
I moved on to another job opportunity before I could see this project be released. However, the next steps were:
-
Continuing to work with Engineering while they build out the PoC using Drupal
-
Test the designs with users to get feedback
-
Make improvements to the designs based on user feedback
